Manufacturer News:
Estes has just bobbarreded the market with new kits and catalog to start the year off right.  Best of all are the arrival of the new Pro Series products.  The pro motors are made by Aerotech and branded and distributed thru Estes.  This makes a small variety of composite motors availalble for the mass market.

I have had a chance to start building one of the newer Estes Kits the Mega Mosquito.  This appears to be an interesting build as the fins are a 3 ply of balsawod that you build yourself.  I have not yet sanded them after laminating them together so stay tunned for more details.  The center layer has a lot of material cut out of it to lose the weight.  The fins are through the wall to the motor mount.

designed for D12's and E9's  this should be an exciting flyer.  I cannot wait to try a composite E20 in it.

The only thing I did not like about he kit is the shock cord attachment.  The directions call for a paper attachment to the inside boddy wall with rubber banding.  I of course modified mine to include 500# Kevlar to the motor mount.

Thanks Semroc for releasing more popular clasic kits.  The Cherokee D, this is one of the clasic favorates.  Flying this on a C11 makes for an excellent flight with an easy return.  Semroc has also releasing the Aerobee 300, WAC Corporal, Ranger, Bandit, Starshp Vega and more to come over the next few months.

Launch Pad is in full production of all of their kits with a few more planned when they get cought up.

Quest has their new Micro Roc Starter Kits available, this is a fun way to enjoy back yard flying.  At this point they have dropped the Shuttle Intrepid, I am watching for more deletions and hope they release a new kit soon.

eRockets is the sole distributor of Totally Tubular model rocket parts.  Totally Tubular tubes are a premium length of 34" and are available in many sizes.  See the Totally Tubular parts page for details.

Flex-I-File sanding products are not readily available with their move from Michigan to Canada.  They have a lot to offer but no one in the US carries them all.  eRockets is working towards carring everything they have to offer in the future.

Aerotech kits have again become available but the prices are shooting up.  Apparently they solved their nose cone mold issue, so now we get to pay for the new parts.  I have not built one of their kits in years so I decided to build one this month.  The Iniator is the model.  The build was quite straight foreword and all of the parts are very heavy duty.  I do nlike the feature of using stainless steel wool to cushion the ejection charge in the baffle. This baffle makes it possible to eliminate the use of recovery wadding in the model.  the parts were of excellent quality.  I will report more after I fill and finish the model.

That's it from the workbench for now.  I will soon be building some Semroc Kits.

Flis Kits Mercury Redstone
The Mercury Redstone began what became known as the "race for the moon", even though it began more as a "catch up" program in an effort to keep pace with the rapidly advancing Russian space program. Limited to sub-orbital flights, the Mercury Redstone brought outer space to the homes of all Americans by sending one of them into space and back.  Our first American hero in many, years, Alan Shepard of Derry, New Hampshire will forever be known as one of the "Original Seven"

Small in size, this 70 inch diameter missile (Redstone) with the tiny Mercury capsule sitting on top, had a very big mission.  To prove to the world that we were as good, if not better than the only other space-fairing nation, the Soviet Union.  With missions that lasted much less time than it even took to get into the flight suit, and a capsule compartment smaller than the driver seat of a VW Beatle, this craft and its mission inspired a nation and a leader to strive for the moon.

This 1:130 sport scale model of the Mercury Redstone offers enough detail to satisfy any scale enthusiast while remaining easy enough to build for anyone with basic model rocket building experience.
