Estes Flying Model Rocket Starter Set Orbitron STEM EST 5305 <Required to pay for UPS Ground Shipping>
Turn your next model rocket launch into a hands-on STEM mission with the beginner-friendly Orbitron™ STEM Kit. This complete experience pairs the futuristic Orbitron™ model rocket with a Porta-Pad® II Launch Pad, Electron Beam® Launch Controller, two D12-7 engines, and enough supplies for two launches, giving you the chance to launch, experiment, collect data, make changes, and test again.
The Orbitron™ can soar up to 950 feet and features a transparent payload compartment that puts experimentation at the center of every flight. Scan the QR code inside the box to access the downloadable Orbitron™ STEM Kit Activity Booklet, where a Mars-inspired mission introduces gravity, drag, rocket stability, recovery systems, payload experiments, and more through activities that turn every countdown into a new discovery.
A Beginner-Friendly Introduction to STEM Rocketry
The Orbitron™ STEM Kit combines the excitement of model rocketry with hands-on science in an experience designed for beginner rocketeers. Instead of simply launching a rocket and watching it climb, the kit encourages young rocketeers and families to experiment, collect data, make observations, and see real STEM concepts unfold throughout the flight.
At the center of the experience is the Orbitron™, a sleek, sci-fi inspired model rocket with a transparent payload compartment and a maximum altitude of up to 950 feet on the included D12-7 engines. Its beginner skill level makes it an approachable first step into model rocketry, while its futuristic styling, payload capability, and impressive performance give new flyers plenty to explore after their first successful launch.
Everything You Need for Two Rocket Launches
The Orbitron™ STEM Kit brings the core launch equipment together in one box. You get the Orbitron™ Model Rocket Kit, two D12-7 engines, a Porta-Pad® II Launch Pad, and an Electron Beam® Launch Controller, with enough supplies for two launches.
That second flight is where the STEM experience becomes especially exciting. Make an observation during the first launch, change a variable, and head back to the pad to see what happens next. It is an approachable way to move from simply seeing science in action to actually testing an idea for yourself.
Turn Every Launch Into a Hands-On STEM Mission
The Orbitron™ STEM Kit Activity Booklet transforms the rocket’s transparent payload compartment into the center of a Mars-themed "Leafy Launch" mission. Accessed by scanning the QR code included in the box, the booklet challenges participants to help an imagined Mars colony by safely delivering a plant sapling payload, giving each launch a purpose beyond simply reaching altitude.
Along the way, participants explore gravity, drag, center of gravity, rocket stability, and parachute recovery through hands-on experiments. They test the Orbitron™ for stability, modify the parachute to see how different changes affect descent time, collect and compare launch data, then use what they discover to determine the best configuration for their final sapling payload flight.
By combining a real flying model rocket with experimentation, observation, and problem solving, the Leafy Launch mission turns abstract STEM concepts into something participants can see, measure, and experience for themselves.
950 Feet of Futuristic Model Rocket Excitement
STEM learning is a lot more memorable when it ends with a rocket streaking toward the sky. Powered by a D12-7 engine, the Orbitron™ can reach altitudes up to 950 feet before returning under its 18-inch parachute recovery system. Molded plastic fins, bold graphics, and its transparent payload compartment give it a distinctive look from liftoff through recovery.
After the included engines are used, the Orbitron™ can continue flying on recommended C11-3, C11-5, D12-5, and D12-7 engines. Whether it becomes a weekend family project, a homeschool STEM activity, or the beginning of a new model rocketry hobby, the Orbitron™ STEM Kit turns two launches into the start of something much bigger.
