North Coast Rocketry Flying Model Rocket Kit  F1-17 Night Fighter  NCR 0211

NCR is proud to present the "F-117 Nighthawk Boost Glider!

In 1996, Estes planned to release flying version of the F-117 Nighthawk; it was even featured on the cover of the new products brochure that year. It never made it to market, but I always liked the design.

A few years ago, I went back to the original designer, Dave Meyers, and asked him to update it for NCR. Three years of hard work later, here it is!

The model boosts to altitude on 24mm Aerotech E18/E20/E28/E30-4 motors, with an intentional roll to ensure straight flights. The internal pop pod ejects and is recovered on a bright silver streamer, while the F-117 settles into a fast glide.

The NCR F-117 Nighthawk features a vacuum-formed shell, laser cut balsa and plywood parts, and eleven 3D printed parts. It also has "peel and stick" decals, an engine hook, and complete detailed instructions.

The model is 23.25" long, and has a wingspan of 19.0". It weights about 12 ounces at liftoff, fully painted, but without the engine.

This is a kit for master modelers! There's a lot of sanding! Some experience with model airplane hinges is also helpful, but not necessary.

The following materials are necessary for construction: Titebond II wood glue or eBond; wax paper, 30 minute epoxy; gap filling (thick) cyanoacrylate adhesive (CA); balsa filler coat; ¾” wide masking tape; #80, #100, #150, #220, #320 and #400 sandpaper; spray primer; spray paint in the color(s) of your choice, and trim weight (4-8 pennies or lead weights). Optional: 12” x 24” sheet of smooth Melamine or similar, 0.125’ x 24” long rod

The following tools are required for construction: Modeling knife or single edge razor blade; sanding block, sanding T-bar, pencil, pen or Sharpie, Pin Vise Hand Drill with 0.025” bit, and an 18” long ruler. Optional: Dust mask, electric Mouse Sander, three 4” clamps, Dubro Kwik Hinge Slotter kit
